CFA under threat in Western Victoria

The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy MP is urging people to sign a petition and show support for the invaluable work of our local CFA volunteers.

“The Andrews Government is set to sign off on a deal that will give the city-based United Firefighters Union unprecedented power to control the CFA,” Ms Kealy said.

“A UFU takeover of the CFA would prevent volunteers from fighting fires without professional firefighters in attendance, and lead to tens of thousands of volunteers resigning. This will put Victorian families in greater risk next bushfire season.

“A future without 60,000 CFA Volunteer Firefighters is one Victoria cannot afford”, she said.

The CFA has a proud history of protecting Victoria for over 100 years.

“The National-Liberal Coalition value the bravery of our CFA men and women and understands that it is vital to keep the CFA a strong, independent volunteer organisation which protects regional Victoria,” Ms Kealy said.

“The CFA is the lifeblood of our country communities, right across the Lowan electorate.

“Volunteers devote their time to defending the livelihoods of families and land owners and without them our communities would be left unprotected.

“Daniel Andrews’ willingness to sell out 60,000 CFA volunteers shows his failure to understand the importance of the CFA to regional communities.

“I urge anyone who supports the invaluable work of the CFA to sign my petition at  www.emmakealy.com/support_our_cfa_volunteers,” she said.
