Kealy – Funding for Branxholme and Penshurst schools

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP has commended the Branxholme-Wallacedale Community School and the Penshurst Primary School communities for their strong advocacy to secure funding to upgrade their facilities.

Released yesterday, the 2017-18 State budget included $352,000 for the Branxholme-Wallacedale Community School and $60,000 for the Penshurst Primary School for modernisation projects to upgrade existing school facilities.

“The Branxholme-Wallacedale Community School and the Penshurst Primary School, along with the wider school communities, worked hard to have their projects funded to support the needs of their students,” Ms Kealy said.

“Branxholme-Wallacedale Community School plan to undertake significant upgrade works.

“The Penshurst Primary School plan to develop a dedicated ‘Makers Space’ to support further development of their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEMs) program.

“A dedicated ‘Makers Space’ will mean equipment will not need to be constantly moved and packed away and will allow students to have ongoing projects.

“While this funding is wonderful news, it is disappointing that Labor has cut $87 million this year from spending at rural and regional schools across Victoria.

“All young people deserve quality learning environments, whether they live in the city or the country,” she said.
