Kealy – Funding for Dimboola and Laharum Primary Schools

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP has commended the Dimboola and Laharum Primary School communities for their strong advocacy to secure funding to upgrade their facilities.

Released yesterday, the 2017-18 State budget included $472,000 for both the Dimboola and Laharum Primary Schools for modernisation projects to upgrade existing school facilities.

“The Dimboola Primary School and the Laharum Primary School, along with the wider school community, worked hard to have this project funded to support the needs of their students,” Ms Kealy said.

“The Dimboola Primary School has significant cracking to many buildings and will now be able to undertake much needed repair works.

“The Laharum Primary School also plans to undertake significant upgrade work.

“While this funding is wonderful news for the Dimboola and Laharum Primary school communities; unfortunately there was no funding allocated to the Dimboola Memorial Secondary College for desperately needed refurbishment works.

“More disappointing was the $87 million Labor has cut this year from spending at rural and regional schools across Victoria.

“All young people deserve quality learning environments, whether they live in the city or the country, and it is important our students and teachers are supported with first-class facilities,” she said.
