Kealy – Labor delivers road funding cuts

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP is appalled that Labor has continued to ignore the dire need for country roads funding following last week’s State budget announcement.

“Last week’s State budget was extremely disappointing, confirming a 10% cut to funding for country roads since the National-Liberal Coalition were in government in 2014,” Ms Kealy said.

“The Andrew’s Labor Government is skiting about a $2.9 billion surplus, yet they have continued to deliver funding cuts to country roads. This clearly demonstrates the further you live from Melbourne, the less Labor care.

“Many of our local roads have sections of permanent reduced speed limits where the road surface has deteriorated and poses a significant safety risk for our local people,” she said.

Emma Kealy MP is continuing her call for locals to join her in reporting road hazards directly to VicRoads, which will give them evidence to demand additional State funding to better manage and maintain our roads.

“I’ve provided countless examples to the Minister for Roads and spoken in Parliament for the urgent need to fund and improve the appalling conditions of roads right across Western Victoria. Everyone can support this call for action by reporting road hazards,” Ms Kealy said.

Emma Kealy MP is urging everyone to report road hazards directly to VicRoads by phoning 13 11 70 or visit her website http://www.emmakealy.com/road_hazards.

“The Melbourne Andrews Labor Government must understand how important roads are in regional Victoria, and it is disappointing that the dire need for funding continues to be ignored,” she said.
