Kealy welcomes East Grampians Pipeline announcement

The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy has welcomed the announcement that a re-elected Federal Liberal Nationals Government will invest $32 million to complete the East Grampians Pipeline Project.

The funding, which was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack on Sunday, will enable a reliable piped water supply to be provided to up to 1500 farming properties over an area of approximately 530,000 hectares.

“This is fantastic news for our local farmers who have been doing it tough in terms of access to a secure water supply,” Ms Kealy said.

“The bulk of this pipeline is in The Nationals electorate of Lowan and I have been proud to stand with our local farmers over many years to actively pursue funding to allow this critical project to proceed.

“Full credit must also go to Dan Tehan, Federal Member for Wannon, who has advocated tirelessly for funding for this project since it was first proposed.

“Not only will the pipeline provide a reliable water supply for our local farmers, it will also provide the security needed for new industries and industry expansion in the area and help maintain local sporting venues such as our football grounds.

“The Federal Nationals have always held the water portfolio and this announcement demonstrates once again that a Liberal Nationals Government continues to deliver for local people.

“I am proud to be a part of a Nationals team that is determined to deliver this project for our local farmers.”
