Kealy – Youth funding boost for Yarriambiack

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP says a funding boost for the Yarriambiack Shire Council under the Engage! 2018-20 Program will make a real difference for local people.

Ms Kealy actively encouraged local government and community organisations to apply for funding under the program when it was announced in October 2017.

The Yarriambiack Council will receive $110,000 to provide more opportunities for local youth to volunteer, build their skills and engage with their local community. A key initiative will be a Youth Shed where several automotive workshops will be trialled. Other initiatives include a motorsport mentoring program, a Right Path Leadership and Resilience Program as well as media, first aid and barista training.

“The Yarriambiack Youth Action Council are to be commended on their efforts to work with local young people to understand the issues that will help improve their health and wellbeing, social connections and their education, training and employment opportunities,” Ms Kealy said.

“Funding for these kinds of local programs is vital to ensure we can respond to the challenges facing our local youth and provide them with the support they need to reach their full potential.

“I look forward to hearing about the outcomes of the program over the next three years,” she said.
