Liberal Nationals vote to save our CFA

Each and every day our CFA volunteers leave their families to fight fires, saves lives and keep us safe. Last sitting week, the Liberal Nationals voted to protect them.

Late Thursday night, before Good Friday, Daniel Andrews tried to ram through his flawed Fire Rescue Victoria bill while a known opponent was unwell and unable to cast her vote. The Liberal Nationals blocked the legislation.

This bill will tear the CFA apart, give the United Firefighters Union control of CFA stations and assets and strip the CFA of its autonomy.

Daniel Andrews has been deceitful and manipulative by tying his flawed Fire Rescue Victoria plan to the same bill as cancer compensation for firefighters.

Only a Matthew Guy led Liberal Nationals Government will protect both volunteer and career firefighter’s rights for cancer compensation by introducing Presumptive Rights legislation, while protecting the CFA.

We will also enshrine the rights of volunteers in legislation; ensure Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria is properly funded and restore funding to the CFA volunteer magazine Fire Wise.

We now call on Daniel Andrews to take his flawed bill to the election and let Victorians vote at the ballot box.

On 24 November, Victorians will have a clear choice at the polls – Daniel Andrews and his union mates at the UFU, or the Liberal Nationals and the CFA with its long and proud history of volunteerism.

The choice could not be clearer.
