Lubeck intersection upgrade urgently required.

Member for Lowan and Deputy Leader of The Nationals Emma Kealy has called on the Minister for Roads and Road Safety to take urgent action to improve safety at the notorious Horsham-Lubeck Road and Murtoa-Glenorchy Road intersection near Lubeck.

Speaking in State Parliament, Ms Kealy said she continued to be contacted by constituents concerned at the ongoing safety risks that the intersection presented.

There have been numerous collisions at this dangerous intersection resulting in a fatality in 2016, and a serious accident in December 2020,” Ms Kealy said.

“I have written numerous letters to the Minister, personally nominated the intersection under the Black Spot Program and raised my concerns in Parliament in December 2020, which finally resulted in some action and the installation of rumble strips and vehicle activated electronic warning signage.

“I was alarmed to learn from a local resident recently that the electronic warning signage at the intersection have since rusted out and been removed by VicRoads.

“There has now been a further 2-vehicle collision involving a truck and utility at this same intersection earlier this month, with fortunately no-one seriously injured.

“It is simply not good enough that the warning signage has been removed and no other action taken to address the safety risks that this dangerous intersection poses.

“The Minister needs to take urgent action to make this intersection safer, including consideration to realign the intersection, and I will not rest until the situation is addressed.”
