Members Statements Ararat Rural City Council - 21 June 2017

Ms KEALY — The upcoming decision by Ararat Rural City Council to remove differential rates for landholders has the potential to have a disastrous impact on the local business community, farmers and community organisations. I urge the Minister for Local Government to urgently review the governance of Ararat Rural City Council and intervene where appropriate, including a reference to the Victorian Ombudsman or the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate, and to ensure that, should the decision go ahead, local people are provided with substantial financial and mental health support to transition through what will definitely be a very difficult time for many farming families.
