Nominations now open for Aboriginal Honour Roll

The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is encouraging Lowan residents to consider nominating someone they know for the 2019 Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll.

“The Honour Roll recognises aboriginal people, both past and present, who have made a real and lasting contribution to their communities and to Victoria in a wide range of fields,” Ms Kealy said.

“This may include education, health, sport, the arts, justice, community leadership and military service.

“The Lowan electorate is home to many hard working and dedicated aboriginal people who have devoted much of their lives to their communities.

“This may be by a willingness to look after community, to maintain and protect traditions, to have a keen understanding of social justice issues affecting aboriginal people and to listen and find consensus among their people.

“The Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll offers a great opportunity to tell the story of inspirational aboriginal people who have made important contributions to our communities across the electorate.

“I know there are many deserving aboriginal people who are quietly working in their communities across the Lowan electorate and I encourage both the aboriginal and wider community to identify them by submitting a nomination.”

Nominations for the 2019 Honour Roll opened on 9 April and close on 31 May 2019.
