Plans for Murtoa police station progress

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP expects plans for a new police station in Murtoa will shortly be released for public viewing and comment.

“Plans for a new Murtoa Police Station have been submitted to the Yarriambiack Council for planning approval,” Ms Kealy said.

“While it is fabulous news that the Murtoa Police Station will be rebuilt, we need to be sure that the new facility will meet both the needs of our local police officers and the expectations of the local community,” she said.

The current facility includes demountable buildings with limited space and ongoing sewerage issues, presenting significant occupational health and safety risks.

“Our hardworking police officers do an outstanding job with extremely limited resources and are doing their utmost to protect our people, uphold the law and ensure our communities are safe,” Ms Kealy said.

“It is essential that these officers are provided with suitable premise to support our police to do the best job they possible can.

“At the same time there are community expectations that need to be considered such as access and building aesthetics.

“Releasing the plans for public viewing and comment will ensure that everyone’s needs are considered and the best outcome is achieved for both our local police officers and the local community”, she said.
