Review of education and training regulations

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP is encouraging local people to contribute towards a State Government review of education and training regulations.

“The Andrews Labor Government announced Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017 just a few days prior to Christmas and because of this timing I am concerned local parents and educators may not be aware of this,” Ms Kealy said.

“Community consultation is vital when considering any changes to regulations.

“Consultation is the first step in introducing significant change and it is important that educators and parents are informed and involved at this stage of the process.

“Proposed changes cover a wide range of areas including regulations around home schooling, school bus programs and how school councils and parent’s clubs are run.

“I encourage local parents and educators to read the consultation paper carefully and make a submission in areas of interest.

“It is important that all families educating their children in country settings have a say in how education is regulated in Victoria,” she said.

Public consultation closes on 28 February 2017 and further information on the proposed changes can be found at www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/legislation
