Wimmera Cancer Centre Funding

We will not accept the Minister for Health breaking her promise to local cancer, dialysis and palliative care patients.

The Minister for Health, Hon. Jill Hennessy must make good on her promise to local people and provide $1.5 million additional funding for the Wimmera Cancer Centre.

The Minister promised local people on 13 May 2016 that the Government was prepared to allocate extra funding if needed and was quoted: “If you don’t get there, we will, we’re going to build this. This project is not going to stop if the community fundraising falls short.”

The community has shown outstanding support for this project, having raised in excess of $1.2m. However, the total cost of the project has increased by $1.5m and now requires additional funding to ensure that people of the Wimmera can access cancer treatment, dialysis and palliative care in the high quality facility they deserve.

I urge members of the community to sign the petition below to send a clear message to the Minister that she must provide the additional $1.5 million for the Wimmera Cancer Centre as promised. Alternatively you can download a PDF copy here.

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws the attention of the house to the failure of the Minister for Health to fulfil her promise to fund an additional $1.5 million which is required to build the Wimmera Cancer Centre. The Minister promised local people on 13 May 2016 that the Government was prepared to allocate extra funding if needed and was quoted: “If you don’t get there, we will, we’re going to build this. This project is not going to stop if the community fundraising falls short.”

The Wimmera Cancer Centre needs an additional $1.5 million. The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria ensures that the Andrews Labor Government provides an additional $1.5 million to make the Wimmera Cancer Centre a reality.
