Alarming increase in crime under Labor
The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is calling on the Andrews Labor Government to increase police resources in rural areas in light of the latest Crime Statistics Agency figures for the region.
The figures show a staggering increase in the number of crimes recorded since Daniel Andrews was elected, with the following local statistics reported:
- Hindmarsh Shire Council - up 53.51 per cent
- Yarriambiack Shire Council - up 45.07 per cent
- Ararat Rural City Council - up 18.73 per cent
- Southern Grampians Shire Council - up 16.68 per cent
- Northern Grampians Shire Council - up 12.29 per cent
- Glenelg Shire Council - up 4.62 per cent
Ms Kealy said local police did a fantastic job with the resources available, and often went above and beyond to keep communities safe. But she said the level of police resources in regional areas was not anywhere near what it should be.
“Our local police must be recognised for the critical work they do keeping our communities safe, but under Labor there has been an alarming increase in crime in our local government areas,” she said.
“Crime is up right across Victoria, coronavirus cases are soaring, and more Victorians have lost their jobs than in other states.
“Now the Andrews Labor Government is under criminal investigation by Victoria Police, IBAC and the Victorian Ombudsman. If Daniel Andrews can’t run his own cabinet, how can he possibly run the State of Victoria?”
