Community Heritage Grants now open

Historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups looking to preserve locally owned collections including artefacts can apply for funding through the National Library of Australia’s 2019 Community Heritage Grants.

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy is encouraging local community groups to submit an application for grants up to $15,000 to provide assistance in the preservation of local historic collections.

“The Community Heritage Grants program provides local historical societies, libraries, museums and multicultural groups with the opportunity to apply for funding to assist with a range of projects,” Ms Kealy said.

The Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, genealogical and historical societies, multicultural and Indigenous groups.

Grants are provided to assist with the preservation of locally owned but nationally significant collections of materials that are publicly accessibly including artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs and audio visual material.

The types of projects supported by the grant include:

• Significance assessments of collections
• Preservation needs assessments of collections
• Conservation activities and collection management, and
• Training workshops

“This is a fantastic opportunity for community groups in Lowan to receive financial support to help preserve important pieces of our local history,” Ms Kealy said.

“I encourage all historical societies across the Lowan electorate to consider lodging an application.”

Grant applications are now open and will close 5pm, Monday 6 May 2019.
