Drastic full-time job losses across north-west Victoria

Official figures released today again highlight the Andrews Labor Government’s broken promise to create full-time jobs in the north-west region.

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures released today show 12,492 full-time jobs have been lost in north-west Victoria, which includes Horsham, Edenhope, Nhill, Kaniva, Rainbow and Warracknabeal, since Daniel Andrews came to office.

The number of people in full-time jobs in the North-West Region has fallen dramatically from 51,372 in December 2014 to 38,880 in December 2015.

The local unemployment rate has risen by 0.7 per cent since December 2014 to reach 5.9 per cent in December 2015.

Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy said Daniel Andrews was spending $100 million on the so-called Back to Work Scheme, which had created just six full-time jobs across the Wimmera-Mallee area.

“These figures show the Andrews Labor Government’s Back to Work Scheme has been a total failure for our region”, Ms Kealy said.

“Since Daniel Andrews came to office we have seen sharp falls in full-time employment across the north-west.

“Daniel Andrews is all-talk and no-action when it comes to creating local full-time jobs”, she said.
