Emergency Service groups receive funding

Ten local emergency service groups have been successful in receiving funding of up to $321,667 for new vehicles and appliances under the latest round of the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) grants.

The VESEP program gives volunteer emergency service groups the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $150,000 to purchase equipment including vehicles, trucks, tankers, watercraft and trailers, and for minor improvements including refurbishments and amenities, such as kitchens and change rooms.

The Government matches every $1 paid by volunteer groups with a $2 co-contribution.

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP said it was important local emergency services agencies were supported.

“North-west Victoria is a great place to live, work and raise a family, but we have our fair share of challenges with bushfires, floods and road accidents due to the poor condition of many of our local roads.

“These VESEP grants help CFA brigades and SES units– many of whom do an extraordinary amount of their own fundraising – to purchase critical operational equipment and appliances and to undertake facility improvements to protect our local communities.

“Our volunteer agencies are always at the forefront of our response to these events, so it is imperative they receive our support,” she said.
