Kealy encourages Australia Day celebrations

The Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy believes Australia Day is an opportunity to reflect on our unique way of life and national character, and to recognise the invaluable contribution that volunteers make to our community.

Ms Kealy is encouraging all Lowan residents to attend one of the many Australia Day events being held across the region to welcome new citizens and celebrate everything that is great about Australia.

“Australia Day is for all Australians, no matter where our personal stories began, and to reflect on what it means to be an Australian, acknowledge our history and celebrate our way of life,” Ms Kealy said.

“It is also an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that every Australian makes to our nation.

“From the Gunditj Mirring, Eastern Maar, Martang, WotjobalukJaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagalk peoples who have been here for many thousands of years, to those whose families go back generations and those who have come from all corners of the globe to call our wonderful country home.

“Events being held across Lowan are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the people who make our region special and to welcome the new Australians who are going to make our community even stronger.

“Citizen of the Year Awards will also be made in many towns across Lowan recognising those people who have worked tirelessly to make our region a better place to live.

“A huge thank you to all the community groups and councils who are making the community celebrations being held right across our region possible.

“Whether it be by attending a public event or simply getting together with family and friends to put a snag on the barbie, I hope everyone enjoys their Australia Day,” she said.

A full list of local Australia Day events is available in local newspapers or by contacting your local council.
