Kealy hosts visit to Baimbridge College by Shadow Minister

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy and Shadow Minister for Education, Cindy McLeish have toured Hamilton’s Baimbridge College to see first-hand the desperate need for redevelopment of the school.

Labor promised in September 2018 to rebuild Baimbridge College on one site, but have broken that promise and left the school reeling after only providing meagre funds in the 2019-20 State budget for even more planning and no buildings.

Clarity on the future of the largely abandoned site on the opposite side of the road is also desperately needed, with the college being forced to spend vital funds maintaining the site despite its lack of use.

The Nationals committed to fix Baimbridge before the 2018 election, with the commitment matched by Labor.

Ms Kealy has made numerous representations to the Andrews Labor Government urging them to keep their promise.

“Baimbridge College is the only public secondary school in the Hamilton district. It is vital that this investment is made to help support our fabulous educators provide the best possible education for our local students,” Ms Kealy said.

“The planning has already been done and Labor needs to get on with the job of building the facilities that the school so desperately needs, not going around in dizzy little circles redoing plans that have already been completed.

“I will not rest until Labor honours its promise to rebuild Baimbridge College and provide our local youth with the school they are entitled to and deserve.”

Ms McLeish said the Liberal Nationals were committed to first-class educational facilities in regional areas.

“Daniel Andrews appalling State Budget confirmed that the Premier has no plan and no money for regional Victoria,” Ms McLeish said.

“The Liberal Nationals believe all young people deserve quality learning environments, whether they live in the city or the country, and it is important our students and teachers are supported with first-class facilities.”
