Kealy – road repairs at last

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP is pleased to see that after years of lobbying by the local community, maintenance works have finally started on some roads in western Victoria, with works currently underway on the Western and Wimmera Highways.

Ms Kealy spoke in Parliament this week about how the works came on the back of hundreds of calls to VicRoads from members of the local community in support of her ‘Report a Road Hazard’ campaign.

“These locals are rightly concerned about the deteriorating condition of roads in our part of the state, which is putting lives at risk”, Ms Kealy said.

“The Melbourne-centric Andrews Government received a massive cash windfall due to the sale of the Port of Melbourne, and they have introduced 11 new taxes, so quality repairs to our country roads should be a priority.

“Instead they have cut hundreds of millions of dollars out of country roads funding, scrapping The Nationals Country Roads and Bridges program, and we have been forced to run a significant community campaign to get our roads fixed.

“I thank the community for getting behind my ‘Report a Road Hazard’ campaign but we need to keep up the fight for our fair share of roads funding. I encourage everyone to keep reporting road hazards directly to VicRoads through my website www.emmakealy.com or by phoning 13 11 70.

“We need to keep giving VicRoads the data they need to demonstrate that Labor’s funding cuts are devastating our roads.

“The best way to keep our roads safe is to keep them in a safe condition”, she said.
