Kealy slams closure of Schulze’s Beach toilets
A decision by Parks Victoria to demolish a toilet block at Schulze’s Beach, Lake Hindmarsh has been slammed by the Member for Lowan and Deputy Leader of The Nationals, Emma Kealy.
Lake Hindmarsh is currently holding 22,680 ML, slightly down from 25,110 ML in February.
The lake has been used extensively by ski and fishing boats over the summer, with the only boat ramp at the lake located at Schulze’s Beach.
Ms Kealy said the nearest toilets to Schulze’s Beach were approximately 20 kilometres away at Four Mile Beach and at Fisherman’s Hut.
“It is nothing short of absurd for the Minister for Environment to say people using the boat ramp at Schulze’s Beach will need to use toilets approximately 20 kilometres away,” she said.
“If the current toilet block needs to be demolished, it must be replaced.
“No toilets at the boat ramp will mean people will use the trees and sand around the area as a toilet, making it untidy and creating serious health implications.
“If the Minister is firm on her decision to demolish the existing toilet block I expect to see funding in next month’s budget for it to be replaced – no ifs or buts.”
