Kealy supports North Hamilton Fire Brigade
Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy has spoken in Parliament this week calling on the Andrews Labor Government to commit funds desperately needed to repair and upgrade the North Hamilton Fire Brigade station.
“As a result of recent damage to the North Hamilton CFA Shed door, there is an absurd situation where their large fire truck cannot be stored in the shed as the door won’t open,” Ms Kealy said.
“To ensure we provide the best possible support to the amazing volunteers who give their personal time and energy to protect the people and property from the ravages of fire, I have urged the Government to immediately fund a new fire shed for the North Hamilton CFA Brigade,” she said.
Emma Kealy MP and Brad Battin, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services visited the North Hamilton Station last month to speak directly with local CFA volunteers.
“It is essential that our local CFA volunteers have access to the equipment they need to operate safely and efficiently. Not being able to store fire trucks on site is not practical for the volunteers who are trying to help the community,” Ms Kealy said.
The North Hamilton Fire Brigade has also outgrown its premises, with trucks parked mere centimetres from walls and other equipment.
“I have written to the Minister for Emergency Services, Hon. Jane Garrett requesting urgent funding to be provided to the North Hamilton Fire Brigade for a new station. We need to ensure the safety of the members and the continuation of this vital community emergency service,” Ms Kealy said.
“The station has limited space in their storeroom and a new station is needed to allow for better accommodation of their trucks, equipment and CFA members.
“The issue of storage is a common issue for many brigades. The size of vehicles and firefighting equipment has continued to increase over time; however the size of storage sheds have remained the same.
“Firefighters protect all Victorians every day and our CFA volunteers play an important role in not only fighting fires, but also many other roles in the community.
“I will continue to stand up for our local people to ensure the voices of our country communities are heard.
“It’s time for the Andrew Labor Government to show their support for our CFA volunteers and fund a new fire shed they desperately need.
