Liberal Nationals will finish the Warracknabeal Education Precinct
The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP has stood by the Warracknabeal community and reaffirmed her commitment that an elected Liberal Nationals Government will fix Labor’s mess and get the Warracknabeal Education Precinct project back on track and completed.
“Daniel Andrew is boasting about funding Melbourne schools but his Labor Government has completely stuffed up the Warracknabeal Education Precinct,” Ms Kealy said.
“Labor failed to properly fund the project over the last four years and to make things worse, only portions of different stages have been built which has disrupted timing and costing of the rest.
“This year, with just a third of the Special Development School (SDS) and half the Secondary College done, Labor abandoned us completely and failed to allocate any more funds in the May State Budget.
“It’s a disgrace and Daniel Andrews should hang his head in shame.
"I’ve raised the plight of the school in Parliament and I brought it to the attention of The Nationals Leader Peter Walsh and Liberal Leader Matthew Guy.
“The Nationals and Liberals are committed to cleaning up this disgraceful mess so that Warracknabeal’s kids and families have a fully functioning school as soon as possible.
“We know it’s vital to get the SDS finished as a first priority so we have already pledged $6.6 million to complete those works.
“With SDS students moving onto the half-done campus next year, it is absolutely vital completion of their facilities are prioritised.
“It is unclear right now exactly how much is needed to finish the project because Labor abandoned the original staging and then allowed building works to grind to a halt.
“We need accurate costings and we need to get the project re-staged for completion as soon as possible. While that is happening, we will get on with finishing the SDS.
“I am fully committed to this project and unlike Labor, I won’t walk away before the job is done.
“I assure the Warracknabeal community that I will move mountains if that’s what it takes to complete this vital project and ensure the Warracknabeal community have the quality school facilities they need and deserve.
“Only the Liberal Nationals will fix Labor’s mess and do the work required to make sure this critical project gets back on track and completed as soon as possible,” she said.
