Local groups receive History Grant

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy has congratulated the Horsham Historical Society, Kaniva District Historical Society Inc and the West Wimmera Shire Council on their successful Local History Grant applications.

The Horsham Historical Society has received $2,049 to purchase computers to allow community access to the groups’ digitised collection of photos and records and to digitise cassette tapes of interviews.

The Kaniva District Historical Society received $14,836 to work with the State Library to digitise copies of the Lawloit Times between 1910 and 1929 as part of an ongoing project to digitise copies of all regional newspapers issued last century.

“These grants will ensure this information is protected for future generations and available to the public in an easily-accessible manner for historic purposes,” Ms Kealy said.

“I encourage local incorporated not-for-profit community groups across Lowan to consider applying for the next round of Local History Grants when they become available and would be pleased to support their application.”

The long running Local History Grants Program provides small grants to community organisations to support the cost of projects that record and preserve Victorian local history.
