Nhill’s Davis Park will finally see the upgrades it has waited years for, with Member for Lowan Emma Kealy today announcing that a Liberal and Nationals Government will provide funding towards the second stage of the park’s redevelopment.
The Nhill community has advocated tirelessly for the past seven years to upgrade the clubrooms at the park, which were built in the 1960s and have seen limited investment since.
Ms Kealy said the clubrooms were inaccessible for people with additional needs and had no accessible toilets, while the kitchen and canteen facilities being in separate buildings made it extremely difficult for volunteers catering to the thousands of people who used the park each year for netball, football, cricket, hockey and other events.
“Davis Park is one of the premier sporting venues in the region, but it is also used for numerous community functions, health programs and workshops, and as Nhill’s bushfire place of last resort,” she said.
“But as the facility continues to age with no significant investment in upgrades, user groups have had to contend with white ant damage, water damage, malfunctioning toilets and roof leaks.
“I have been proud to stand alongside Nhill and District Sporting Club, which has been incredible in leading the charge for upgrades, but sadly the Labor government has failed to listen to the community and invest in this project.
“A Liberal and Nationals Government will change this, and finally deliver the much-needed upgrades that Davis Park desperately needs.”
Ms Kealy congratulated the sporting club, Hindmarsh Shire Council and locals for their years of work to secure investment for Davis Park.
“I’m proud to work alongside our communities to secure investment in the services and facilities our region needs and deserves,” she said.
“This commitment is part of The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee, the heart of our positive plan to deliver regional communities their fair share of infrastructure investment.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the Nhill community to bring this much-needed redevelopment to life.”
