A Liberal and Nationals Government will end the wait for much-needed upgrades at Warracknabeal’s Anzac Park, with Member for Lowan Emma Kealy today announcing a pre-election commitment towards the park’s redevelopment.
Yarriambiack Shire Council and the park’s multiple user groups have advocated for government funding for many years to upgrade the ageing infrastructure and facilities at the park, including the netball and tennis courts, swimming pool and community pavilion.
The park is also home to football, cricket and hockey, and houses the RSL and playgroups.
The local fire brigade also uses the facility for training purposes.
Ms Kealy said Anzac Park was in desperate need of refurbishment to accommodate the vast number of user groups who called it home, but the Labor government had failed to deliver.
“Anzac Park is a hive of activity year-round, but some of its infrastructure is nearly a century old, and the facilities are difficult to access for people with additional needs, including elderly visitors,” she said.
“There have been small remedial changes to the infrastructure over the years, but the park requires significant redevelopment to ensure all its user groups can continue to use it safely and effectively.
“This is why the Liberals and Nationals will kick-start the essential upgrades the park needs to continue to serve Warracknabeal and surrounding communities well into the future.”
Yarriambiack Shire Mayor Andrew McLean said the commitment was wonderful news and reflected the importance of Anzac Park to the community.
“Anzac Park brings people together through sport, recreation and community activity, and this investment provides a significant opportunity to strengthen the precinct for generations to come,” he said.
“For communities like Warracknabeal, investment in facilities such as Anzac Park is about much more than infrastructure. It is about creating opportunities for people to participate, connect and belong, while ensuring our towns remain vibrant and attractive places to live.
“Council greatly appreciates this significant commitment and thanks the Nationals and Emma Kealy for recognising the value of investing in Warracknabeal and the future of our rural communities.”
Ms Kealy congratulated Yarriambiack Shire Council, the park’s many user groups and locals for their years of advocacy.
“I’m proud to work alongside our communities to secure investment in the services and facilities our region needs and deserves,” she said.
“This commitment is part of The Nationals’ Fair Share Guarantee, the heart of our positive plan to deliver regional communities their fair share of infrastructure investment.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the Warracknabeal community to bring these much-needed upgrades to life.”
