Mens shed funding up for grabs

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP is encouraging local applications for the 2017 Men’s Shed Funding Round which is now open.

“Grants of up to $60,000 are now available to construct a new men’s shed, redevelop an existing shed or co-locate a shed. Refurbishment grants of up to $30,000 are also available,” Ms Kealy said.

“Men’s Sheds play an important role in our rural communities and are one of the most powerful tools we have in helping men to remain valuable members of our community.

“Most Aussie men have learned from our culture that they don’t talk about feelings and emotions. Because of this many men are prone to suffer more from isolation, loneliness and depression.

“Becoming a member of a Men’s Shed gives a safe and busy environment where men can connect with friends and maintain an active body and mind in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.

“They also allow men to undertake a form of community service, with members often completing house repairs and maintenance work for pensioners,” she said

Applications for grants close on Friday, 16 June 2017 and more information is available at

“I encourage incorporated not-for-profit organisations and local councils to apply for this round of funding,” Ms Kealy said.
