New funding to help grow local sports clubs

Sports clubs across the Lowan electorate can now apply for a share in $500,000 in VicHealth funding to get more Victorians active and playing sport.

The latest round of VicHealth’s Active Club Grants provides funding of up to $3,000 or up to $10,000 to community sport clubs to create more opportunities for women and girls to play sport as well as social or modified sport options.

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy encouraged local clubs to apply for the funding to help them create more opportunities for women and girls to become more active and improve their health.

“This is about making grassroots sports more accessible so everyone can get involved in the sports they love,” Ms Kealy said.

There are two funding tiers available under the VicHealth grant:

Tier 1: Female participation

Clubs are asked to demonstrate how they will get more women and girls involved in physical activity, through new or recently established programs, teams, activities and opportunities.

Tier 2: Participation in social and modified forms of sport

Clubs are asked to demonstrate how a social or modified program will attract more people to become regularly physically active. Successful clubs will modify their sport to increase participation opportunities across age, disability, skill level, fitness level, lifestyle, or location. Social sports include more flexible, fun and less-structured opportunities with a focus on social interaction, and less emphasis on performance, results and competition.

“It is important that everyone has the chance to get involved and embrace a healthy lifestyle, regardless of their age, gender or ability,” Ms Kealy said.

Clubs are encouraged to apply for the funding grants through the VicHealth website before round one closes at 4 pm on Friday 30th August 2019.
