Member’s Statement – Road Maintenance

While Labor are only focused on fighting each other, the Nationals and Liberals are in here fighting for the Victorians who want a change – who want a fresh start for Victoria. The first thing that people in regional Victoria want is to make sure they get a fair investment in our rural and regional roads that are simply falling apart under Labor.

Yet again we have seen the community rise in frustration around the condition of the Big Dipper on the Coleraine-Edenhope Road. This is a road which has been in a terrible condition for years and years. In fact many moons ago I actually read a letter from young George, who was a student who was concerned about the condition of this road as he bounced along on his way to school in the bus each and every day. This road is in a horrendous condition at the moment, and I urge the Labor government to make sure they fix our roads and make them safe.

It is not fair that our people are putting their lives on the line because Labor will not invest in our road asset management program. Instead, if you contrast that with the Nationals and the Liberals, we have committed $5 billion to fix our roads and make them safe. This is the fresh start that Victorians want and Victorians need. This will give us the funds we need to fix our roads.

Whether it is smaller roads like the Coleraine-Edenhope Road or our major highways like the Henty, Wimmera, Glenelg, Hamilton and Western highways, the Nationals will do it.
