Push for Hamilton CFA-EMV Airbase funding continues

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy has again called on the Andrews Labor Government to fund Stage 2 of the Hamilton CFA-EMV Airbase.

Ms Kealy said the state government should be investing in community infrastructure in regional towns like Hamilton and Stage 2 of the Hamilton CFA-EMV Airbase had been on the waiting list for far too long.

“It is essential we support our CFA volunteers to help them do what they do best - protect our local people and property when there’s a fire,” Ms Kealy said.

“The Hamilton CFA-EMV Airbase plays a critical role in responding to emergency fire events in south west Victoria and I have been actively lobbying the Andrews Labor Government to provide funding to complete the project for five years.

“It has been incredibly disappointing that Labor have failed to see the value in providing the funding necessary to complete Stage 2 and allow the facility to become an efficient, modern and strategically located fire-fighting asset for south-west Victoria.

“The Hamilton Airbase Development Group led by Leighton Wraith is to be congratulated for its initiative in canvassing local contractors and believe they can now get the project completed with a mere $150,000 contribution from the state government.

“With another fire season nearly upon us, I am calling on the state government to provide the small amount of funding required to deliver this critical regional project.

“Daniel Andrews and his city centric Labor Government must stop putting local lives at risk and give our local emergency services and volunteers the infrastructure and equipment they need, and our communities the peace of mind that they are entitled to and deserve.”
