Unemployment rates continue to rise

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP says the latest data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the number of unemployed people in Victoria continues to rise under the Daniel Andrews Labor Government.

Under Daniel Andrews, the total number of unemployed people in Victoria has risen from 180,146 in August 2016 to 206,200 in August 2017, an increase of 26,054 people.

Ms Kealy said nowhere was the Andrews Labor Government’s failure to create employment opportunities more obvious than in North West Victoria.

“Daniel Andrews is trying to quote North West Victoria as one of the strongest performing regions”, Ms Kealy said.

“However the reality is that the total number of people employed across North West Victoria has reduced by 1,636 people since Labor came into Government in December 2014.

“It is obvious that Daniel Andrews has no jobs planned for Western Victoria and all his energy is spent looking after Melbourne at the expense of regional areas.

“Country people are sick of being treated like second-class citizens by Daniel Andrews’ Labor Government.

“It's time for Daniel Andrews’ city-centric Labor Government to go so that Western Victoria can start to move forward and we can build a better future for our region,” she said.
