Drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic a must for Horsham: Kealy

With confirmed COVID-19 cases in the region necessitating an increase in testing, Member for Lowan Emma Kealy has called on the Andrews Labor Government to urgently establish a drive-through coronavirus testing clinic in Horsham.

Ms Kealy said confirmation of COVID-19 cases in the area over the past week had led to a huge surge in demand for testing.

She said people had contacted her office concerned about testing accessibility, with some planning to travel to Hamilton’s drive-through clinic to avoid having to wait.

“Our medical staff at current testing sites are doing the very best they can, and they need to be supported to meet the testing demand in our region. A drive-through clinic is essential to ensure anyone who needs to be tested can access a test quickly,” she said.

“The government needs to urgently take action to make this a reality, to ensure any transmission within our area can be identified and acted on quickly.”

Ms Kealy said the confirmation of cases in the region was a reminder to people to take care, respect the highly contagious nature of the virus, and follow the advice of health officials.

“I wish those who have tested positive to COVID-19 all the very best for a full recovery. I also thank those who are isolating while awaiting a test or test results,” she said.

“This is a difficult and uncertain time for these people, and we need to ensure they feel supported as we all work together to keep our community safe and well.”
