Emily designs Christmas card for MP

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP will use a design by Emily Preston, a Year 5 student at Haven Primary School as the cover for her 2017 Christmas card.

Ms Kealy wrote to all primary schools in the electorate inviting students to design the cover of her Christmas card, asking them to depict what they loved best about their local area, with a touch of Christmas. They were also given the opportunity to explain their work in 25 words.

Emily described her drawing as “a few of my favourite things about Lowan including the Grampians, Green Lake and the great farm”.

A number of other students who produced highly commended artwork will receive a prize in appreciation of their outstanding efforts.

“The artistic talent of our youth is very impressive and it was striking how many included references to their favourite places and our recharged lakes and rivers,'' Ms Kealy said.

''I wanted something meaningful that represented our great part of the State and they have certainly given me that.

''I am so proud of their great work and I will be displaying some of the entries in my office window.

''This is the third year I have run this competition and it will definitely be something I will do again next year,'' Ms Kealy said.
