Essential Services Commission review of energy retail market

The Essential Services Commission has been asked to develop a framework to assess whether the Victorian energy retail market is delivering good value to energy customers.

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy said the ESC was currently calling for people to share their experiences with prices, service quality, competition, innovation and efficiency in the energy retail market.

“We all know about the gas supply monopoly situation in Horsham and that Wimmera residents cannot access the same energy prices and deals as those available in Melbourne,” Ms Kealy said.

“Time and time again the Andrews Labor Government has promised to address this issue to protect Horsham consumers from skyrocketing gas and electricity prices but have done nothing.

“The ESC review is a great opportunity for local residents to express their views and share their experiences.

“I encourage all local residents to take this opportunity to have their say on this critical issue to try and get some fairness and competitiveness into our local energy markets.”

Residents can share their views on the Engage Victoria website www.engage.vic.gov.au until the end of November.
