Feedback sought on pool safety standards

New safety standards are being proposed for private swimming pools and spas, with feedback from stakeholders currently being sought on drafted Building Amendment (Swimming Pool and Spa) Regulations 2019.

The Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is encouraging homeowners with pools and spas to review the proposed changes and make their views and experiences heard.

“Significant new safety standards are being proposed for homeowners of private swimming pools and spas and it is very important that people come forward and have their say on the proposed amendments”, Ms Kealy said.

The proposed Regulations include the mandatory requirement for owners of private swimming pools and spas to register them with their local council, as well as to engage a registered building surveyor or inspector to inspect and certify the compliance of safety barriers every three years.

The Regulations, including the Regulatory Impact Statement that examines the costs and benefits of the proposed Regulations and alternative options that were considered, can be viewed online at www.engage.vic.gov.au/new-safety-standards-private-swimming-pools-and-spas.

Stakeholders can make a submission at the above web address until 5pm on 6 September 2019.

“The requirements being proposed are significant and will effect pool and spa owners across the Lowan electorate so I strongly encourage homeowners to have your say,” Ms Kealy said.
