Grants to boost community safety

Community groups and councils are being encouraged to apply for Community Safety Fund grants of up to $25,000 for local community crime prevention projects.

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy said the grants, established by the former National-Liberal Government, help not-for-profit community groups and councils deliver projects that prevent crime, improve safety and strengthen community engagement.

There are two streams of funding available:

Stream 1 - grants of up to $10,000 for projects aimed at preventing crime relating to community facilities and public spaces. This could include the installation of security equipment or small-scale improvements to streetscapes, parks and reserves.

Stream 2 - grants of up to $25,000 aimed at education and awareness initiatives focussing on home safety, theft from businesses, personal property theft in public places and theft of and from motor vehicles.

Ms Kealy said applications were open to community groups and councils until 4pm on Friday, 18 October 2019.

“I encourage all local councils and not-for-profit community groups to consider applying for a grant to help improve the safety of our local residents,” Ms Kealy said.

“I would be pleased to provide a letter of support for any groups or councils submitting an application.”
