Kealy – funding urgently required for Albacutya Bridge

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP is calling on the Andrews Labor Government to provide urgent funding to replace the existing Albacutya Bridge.

“The Albacutya Bridge is almost one hundred years old and at risk of closure due to age related structural damage”, Ms Kealy said.

The load limit of the 96 year old bridge was significantly reduced in 2016, causing diversions and significant additional travel for heavy vehicles.

“This bridge is a critical link for farmers, gypsum pit operators, school buses and tourists”, Ms Kealy said.

“$3.3 million is urgently required by the Hindmarsh Shire Council to replace the bridge, once again allowing this important transport route to be used by heavy vehicles.

“The Andrews Labor Government has scrapped The Nationals Country Roads and Bridges fund, which would have helped Hindmarsh Council to fix the Albacutya Bridge.

“The Andrews Labor Government must immediately provide $3.3 million to rebuild Albacutya Bridge before the next grain season”, she said.
