Neighbourhood Houses call for support

The Nationals Member for Lowan, Emma Kealy MP has taken delivery of hundreds of postcards signed by local residents in support of regional Neighbourhood Houses.

The postcards are part of a campaign by Neighbourhood Houses Victoria to have the Andrews Labor Government deliver on its 2014 election commitment to provide increased funding support to Neighbourhood Houses.

“Our Neighbourhood Houses offer fantastic services in local towns including adult education, social support and as agencies for some government departments,” Ms Kealy said.

“Before the last election Daniel Andrews promised to increase funding to Neighbourhood Houses, but after three years the promise of more money has been broken and the staff, volunteers and visitors to local Neighbourhood Houses are realising they’ve been forgotten by Labor.

“Our Neighbourhood Houses in Lowan do a great job in responding to local community needs, often in trying circumstances and with a very limited budget.

“Daniel Andrews has broken his promise made three years ago to increase funding to Neighbourhood Houses.

“This is yet another example of Daniel Andrews saying one thing then doing another. He has abandoned many local vulnerable people and turned his back on the great work our local Neighbourhood and Community Houses deliver,” she said.
