No funding for Wimmera Hwy - Letter to the Editor

Following many concerns raised regarding safety for local people who travel on this highway, including school buses, I asked the Minister to provide detail of the Labor Government’s plans to improve the roads condition.

I have written directly to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Hon. Luke Donnellan on countless occasions, however more recently regarding the appalling condition of the Wimmera Highway between Murtoa and Dooen.

I was surprised and extremely disappointed in the Ministers response which clearly confirmed Labor has no plan or intention to repair the Wimmera Highway between Murtoa and Dooen.

The Minister’s response stated “In regional Victoria, safe and reliable transport is everything, and the Budget provides a massive investment to improve public transport and roads across rural and regional Victoria”.

However, no funding has been specifically allocated to this highway which is in desperate need of repairs.

It is extremely disappointing that this city centric Labor Government continue to ignore the pleading calls from local people who are desperate for improved road safety conditions.

Western Victoria has been reported as having some of the worst roads in the State and we must keep reporting more road hazards and ensure we continue the push for roads funding.

I strongly encourage local people to keep reporting all road hazards directly to VicRoads to help give them the data they need to demonstrate that funding is desperately needed.
